The ten-minute desk reset for a clearer start
A useful desk reset prepares the next task. It does not require a showroom surface or an expensive set of matching organisers.

Clear the working area
Return cups and loose packaging, then gather papers into one small stack. Keep the tools needed for the next task within reach. Move unrelated items to their proper place where possible rather than hiding them in a drawer that will become tomorrow's problem.
Give loose information a home
Write actions from scraps of paper into the task system you already use. File documents that need keeping and securely dispose of anything containing personal information. Do not spend the whole reset redesigning your digital folders; choose one practical destination for today's material.
Leave a starting instruction
Put a short note on top of the next document: “Check the three missing figures” is more useful than “Work on report.” When you return, the note reduces the need to reconstruct your own intentions. If ten minutes is too much, clear just the keyboard area and write that instruction. A reset succeeds when it makes starting easier, even if the rest of the room remains an ordinary lived-in space.
